Deep Worm keeps moving until the player changes direction or it hits a screen edge. The creature digs under soil and crawls above ground. The player flips direction in both zones. Turbo mode boosts its speed and makes it dart across the field.
The worm rips through soldiers, trucks or aircraft on its path. Single hits destroy foot soldiers and light vehicles. Tougher targets like green troop carriers and rocket launchers take three strikes to collapse. The journey begins with foot soldiers and moves on to jeep gun squads, soldier-filled trucks, rotorcraft and planes dropping paratroopers. Then rocket trucks fire underground and heighten the challenge.
Jeeps fire backward and charging them head-on or from below keeps the worm safe. Helicopters fire forward and the worm pushes jeeps under that barrage by staying low. Rocket trucks shell tunnels and blasting them early removes that threat. Damage mounts and the worm burrows deep. A quick rise to the surface delivers strikes against many enemies and restores health.
